If the demons can negate their losses (which is easy to do with the "Open Gate" spell or, at worst, by learning Light magic), they won't be inferior to the Necromancers. When troops that are more protected, have excellent initiative, and have higher attack power face an opponent (in this case, a Necromancer) who has a similar-sized army but lower values for the aforementioned characteristics, the latter will lose:smile24:
