And if the Phantom Imps and Dryads fight, the Dryads will "survive" because they attack without retaliation.

I just checked specifically... the Dryads really do go first... BUT!!! Their Swarm of Wasps either doesn't have a knockback effect, or this effect doesn't always work... I ran 3 battles, and in each one, I attacked the Imps with the Swarm of Wasps... and what was the result? The Imps calmly took their turn...
So, save your mana, everyone, we'll need it))))))))))))))))))
