* Due to the shape of the letter X, its name, "her," was often used to denote something cross-shaped: Dal[2] mentions "playing heriki-oniki" (tic-tac-toe) and the expression "nogi kherom" as the opposite of "nogi kolesom." From this also comes the word "pokherit" (originally meaning to cross out with an X; cf. Leskov: The Lord crossed out the consistory's decision on the appointment of an investigation with an X[3]).
* Being the first letter of a well-known obscene word (kh*y), the word kh*r has been actively used as its euphemism since the 19th century[4].

Just something to think about. About the fact that the word kh*r was never a swear word, but when it transitioned into another word, then it certainly became one.
