If it's a function, then why is there a cpp extension? Or is it just the name?

Google didn't help me at all; I spent half a day on it, and the problem hasn't been solved anywhere else.
Reinstalling doesn't help; it works on XP, and I've tried different versions of the game (Heroes of Might and Magic and Dungeon Siege). I suspect it's an incompatibility with x64 or just buggy games (both of them).
