If it happened at night and involved a striptease, I think it's more likely the latter.

Yes, you're right. Although, not all stripteases are the same! Once, there was this rather obscure club in St. Petersburg called Night City. The music wasn't great, but I went there because of something quite rare – there were three times more girls than guys (which was really strange and unusual). Every night, there was either a striptease, a fire-breathing show, or a fire-eating show. And to keep the stage from being empty, all the fans of "amateur" striptease would have fun during the free time. Once, there was a contest for the best male amateur striptease (I don't remember what the prize was – I think the winner could spend the rest of the night bowling with friends, paid for by the club). Three guys made it to the final. And just as the dance was almost over, a huge, fat woman suddenly climbed onto the stage and tried to pull down the pants of one of the guys with her large hands! The poor guy immediately wilted (he was clearly of a more fragile build than this, shall we say, "fan"), and the security had to intervene. That guy never appeared on stage again and in the following nights, he pretended that male striptease was "not for him" at all.)))
So, even in fairly cultured nightclubs, there can be incidents comparable in level of idiocy to those at discotheques. But it's rare, of course ;)

And I'm not a very good dancer... I'm better at pushing and shoving.

It's okay, you have your whole life ahead of you – you'll definitely learn! The main thing is not to restrain the movements of your body and express yourself fully.
