I believe that in a large battle, it's not a good idea to open portals early on with fast creatures (Cerberus and Nightmares). First, attack, and when the enemy is identified (for example, when a Hound or Dog is next to an Archer, you don't necessarily need to attack them with those fast creatures; it's better to use Gating).
