Actually, yes. That's true. When choosing Haven and focusing on melee combat (golems, nagas, titans/dragons), it will be incredibly useful. Nothing will be left for Chaos but to focus on buffs – we can take them out in one turn, no problem. By the way, you gave me a very valuable idea! Thank you! Perhaps I'll forget about hobbits for a while.

It's not a given that all five heroes in the army will be able to get Magresist. This means that potential victims for hypnosis are ready. I think it's easier to have one amateur in the field of Life magic than five 100% immune to magic.
Against Haven, magic resistance is essential. As is against Chaos. Because otherwise, berserkers and your dragons and ifrits will burn their own.
