Confirmed.
I explored my respawn area and didn't find a single crystal. The secondary areas were full of archers, and I didn't want to go to level 117 without bears. I went to my usual secondary area, cleared out a group of elves, and was left with 2 harpies and 4 orcs. I immediately ran into a "block" of harpies and couldn't break through. I decided not to continue.
