Everything happened as described:
in the 1st game, the outcome was decided by the opponent's lucky soldier attacks: after the attack of the first two units, almost 30% of the troops were killed.
in the 2nd game, the knights managed to strike with their spears once, but when there were only 2 of them left.
in the 3rd game, magic was indeed not allowed, although this game was practically evenly matched.
