There's an opinion that fixes are a new thing. This is not true; most tournaments are held on fixed maps to level the playing field and give opponents an equal chance of winning. Furthermore, it eliminates the possibility of cheating by one of the opponents viewing the map – both can view the map as much as they want and whenever they want (for example, during the game). Besides, fixes differ from random maps in terms of balance.
