Well, I think this is still better than relying on chance and having to replay. Even though you won't gain experience, you'll lose your troops fairly. Otherwise, you could replay and the luck might be different, the resistance might work differently, a unicorn might blind someone, and a dragon's foresight might age someone... and one gremlin might die and not be able to plug the hole in the wall...
