"Name of Russia" contest.

The image of Alexander Nevsky is 90% a creation of the church. He wasn't made into a great figure any more than Peter the Great was (IMHO). I'm for Alexander II. If he hadn't been killed, the history of Russia in the late 20th century would have unfolded differently, and in a much better way. If he weren't among the candidates, I would have voted for Stolypin. I didn't vote for Pushkin and Mendeleev because they did a lot for world literature and world science, respectively, and the poll is specifically about Russia. I almost didn't vote for Dostoevsky for the same reason. Peter I did a lot, but in my opinion, he is less worthy of this title than Alexander II and Stolypin. Voting for Lenin is like spitting in the face of Russia. It's like choosing a German spy. There were positive aspects to Stalin's rule, but the millions of people destroyed by the regime and his leadership before and at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War clearly outweigh them. I would have voted for Suvorov if Alexander II and Stolypin weren't present. Ivan the Terrible, IMHO, is not worthy of this title. Catherine II didn't do anything that would warrant her being in this poll.
