Troglodytes are actually one of the main offensive stacks when taking Utopias early on! To prevent the dragons from targeting the Troglodytes, you need to: have enough Troglodytes so that the dragons are afraid to engage; you need to have enough disposable units to distract the dragons. If there are no hidden Mines and few disposable units for the dragons, then Mines can quite easily take on the role of cannon fodder in Utopia, to keep the Troglodyte stack intact :p.
