Dragon scales have a mirrored surface, so the laser will reflect.
Does every dragon really have mirrored scales? Even a black dragon? :)

Why is that? It has quite specific properties. The authors are not involved here; we're just discussing the facts.
Even if a dragon's scales are very shiny, its reflection coefficient might not be enough to avoid the damaging thermal effect of the laser ;)

Why is that? If that were the case, then, for example, a mirror left in the sun would heat up...
