"The Lord of the Rings" is a novel by English writer J.R.R. Tolkien, consisting of six parts and three books. The novel is a cult work in the fantasy genre. It was first published in 1954–1955 by the London publishing house Allen & Unwin. The novel was published in three volumes, which caused some dissatisfaction for Tolkien, who was against such a division. It has been translated into at least 38 languages. For the first time, all parts of the novel were combined into one volume in 1968; Tolkien made some changes to this edition.
