Amaranth, that's exactly why I prefer Warlock. My friends and I play on large maps. So, by the endgame, our heroes are usually around level 25. But if there's an opportunity to upgrade Empathy, I prefer to upgrade that instead of Mentorship. I try to upgrade Mentorship primarily for Necromancers.
