Literature.

I read the first volume of "War and Peace" in the waiting room of the Chelyabinsk train station – I spent 12 hours there! Believe me, there couldn't have been a better way to pass the time (except maybe grabbing a snack or taking a bathroom break).
In general, I like Dostoevsky and Tolstoy among all Russian classics.
Of recent foreign works, I've read "I'm Not Scared" by Niccolò Ammaniti (a film based on this book was released in 2002) and "Lust for Life" by Irving Stone. Among Russian works, I've read "And Quiet Flows the Don" by Sholokhov and "Peter the Great" by A.N. Tolstoy.

That's a good idea; I'll search the internet and post a couple of links in this thread.

War and Peace... it's completely uninteresting. And the circumstances just weren't right... and now I have absolutely no desire to read it.

But I enjoyed reading it; the author has many interesting ideas. The only thing that was tedious was reading the descriptions of social life and balls. I like Andrei the most among the characters.

By the way, "The Master and Margarita" is much more difficult to read at the beginning than "War and Peace." I skipped dozens of pages. But by the middle, I was reading it with great enthusiasm, without stopping.
