Yeah, that's right. If we talk about the Priest being able to use Chaos protection and similar, then the very meaning of the Paladin class is lost. Boom, and you're using Death protection.
You understood me correctly. I was considering the Paladin specifically from the point of view of its basic ability. Another class also has a similar ability (the Monk - Chaos protection). But here's the catch... This class doesn't require combat skills. Hence, there are problems with defense :)
After charm, teleport, and mass slow, it's used as often as illusions. Notice, this is true.
