"The Miner's Adventures"

I seem to have fallen behind with the third installment of Heroes... So, here's my question: I have a laptop specifically configured for WINXPHOME. I can't seem to replicate most of the battles from Heroes 1 to 3 in terms of morale and luck. How critical is the environment for the patched executable to function properly? Am I correct in assuming that battles will be evaluated without the "traffic light" system? And what about Heroes 1 and 2? Would it also be beneficial to adjust the morale to be more chess-like? And if there's an example of a winning battle under the new rules, I'd like to download it and try to replicate it on my own.
