Here's the situation with the "Hand of Death" spell: The spell is applied as a curse, meaning magic resistance will not reduce the damage from the spell (and there's nothing to reduce anyway). Instead, it will try to prevent the spell from "going through." Therefore, "Hand of Death" may not work even with 30% magic resistance. I just tested this.
