"Since many friends and acquaintances are puzzled:
1. what was it?
2. who was fighting?
3. who won?
I will try to answer briefly, my dears.
Anamnesis:
1. The first war of the fourth world war. Unlike the first two world wars - honest ones, on the battlefield, unlike the third world war - the Cold War, the fourth world war will consist of local wars. As always, Russia will participate in it.
2. The USA and Russia fought. The USA - through its allies in Georgia. Russia, as usual, through its allies in Abkhazia and South Ossetia + with its own forces. This is the key difference between the USA and Russia.
3. To understand who won, let's first understand the goals of the parties.
USA: 1. To test Russia "for strength" - whether it will risk entering a war with the American puppet.
2. If the Georgian invasion is successful, to discredit Russia in the Caucasus as a helpless country, if the invasion fails - to discredit Russia as an aggressor, if Russia occupies Georgia - to push Russia into the role of a "rogue state" and organize international isolation.
3. To support its Georgian puppet, demonstrate to it that an alliance with the USA is necessary and beneficial.
Georgia: 1. To regain control of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
2. To satisfy ambitions regarding Russia with a "victory".
3. If the invasion fails, to gain the image of an "innocent victim", a "small heroic country".
Abkhazia and South Ossetia: 1. To survive as de facto independent states.
2. If successful, to gain the status of de jure independent states or join Russia.
Russia: 1. To prove to the peoples of the Caucasus that Russia remains a strong state, pursuing its independent policy in the Caucasus.
2. To show the peoples of the Caucasus that Russia "does not abandon its own".
3. To practice tactics for fighting against American (de facto) equipment and army.
4. To restore the status quo in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
5. To demonstrate to Georgia and a number of other post-Soviet "countries" that it is no longer worth offending and provoking Russia.
6. To discredit the authorities of Georgia and their American advisors.
7. If successful, to gain the status of independent states for Abkhazia and South Ossetia or join Russia.
8. To check the real mood of the people, the level of patriotism, and if successful, to increase respect and trust in the authorities.
Note that the goals of Russia did not include and could not include the "occupation of Georgia" or its "annexation". Simply because WHY WOULD WE WANT IT? A poor, aggressive, hostile to Russia state, into which huge amounts of money will have to be invested, fighting with partisans - and all this against the backdrop of Russia's isolation on the world stage and serious economic problems. Everyone who is upset that our tanks did not reach Tbilisi should ask themselves: "why?" and "what then?"
It should also be noted that Russia had the most tasks in this war. This is both a plus and a minus at the same time.
Now let's see who got what.
Summary:
USA: Partially point 2 (there is condemnation of Russia in the world, but the clumsy and cruel actions of Georgia minimized it).
Partially point 3 (Georgia became convinced of the need for American help, but at the same time understood that this help will have clear limits - they will not fight for them).
Georgia: Partially point 3, due to the fact that Georgia acted as an aggressor and attacked a peaceful city. The reaction to this is ambiguous even among those who hate Russia.
Abkhazia and South Ossetia: Point 1 is fulfilled, point 2 has become slightly more likely.
Russia: 1-2-3-4 fulfilled completely. 5 with reservations - a number of countries (Ukraine in the first place) will even more actively strive for NATO. However, they were already very active. 6 - partially fulfilled (the war on the information front was not lost, but this is not our forte). 7 - partially fulfilled, 8 - fulfilled.
Now think for yourself who won and achieved their goals.
What conclusions should be drawn?
The war will happen. Moreover, it is already going on.
The USA has not and will not abandon plans to destroy Russia. The only obstacle to this is our army and navy. A strong army and navy are impossible for a poor country. A country that lives by selling resources cannot be strong - because it is easily ruined by an economic blockade. This, of course, is a double-edged sword, but...
The next stages of the Fourth World War should be expected in the coming years. Most likely, not in the Caucasus. How Russia will perform in it depends on the lessons we have learned and on how we will be able to take advantage of the insane adventure of Saakashvili.
We are not loved in the world and will not be loved. Just because "love" on the international stage is possible only on the basis of mutual benefit. Simply put, they love the strong or the rich, and even better - the strong and the rich. This must be clearly understood and not be complex about it.
In general, patriotism in Russia exists and remains the most important factor in the existence of our state. However, the "fifth column" also really exists. And the state must take into account that the internal enemy, who wants our defeat, is more dangerous than the external one. Everyone who, in one way or another, supported the position of Georgia, should quickly and clearly feel that they did it in vain.
Russia passed the first exam for survival. Whether it will pass the next ones will show in the coming years."
