In my opinion, all factions are good. It depends on the player. The right strategy and skill (and a bit of imagination) will help you win with any faction.
Not always! A lot depends on the map layout. For example, in a multiplayer game, all players might be very skilled, but one gets useful artifacts, while the others get bad ones! And the factions also play a big role! If I know that my opponent is a good player, I wouldn't choose the Academy or even the Dungeon, knowing that he will choose the Fortress! Why? Figure it out!
