We took all the restarts, after which I got a good respawn: a Nymph Cave with 30+ Mummies, enough money to buy Nymphs from the Castle and from the Cave.
With Heroes and Castles, I had 15 Elves on day 2, took 2 Crypts, a Gnomish Stronghold with a group of 20, and set up in the Nymph Cave.
