Well, I'll say a few words. I have about 20 games on the Heroes of Might and Magic 3.0 version. But here's what I can say:
One of the common mistakes players make is to play with the "native" tactics of a hero.
Let me explain what this means:
Take Axel, for example: a hero with a clearly defined offensive tactic. But why not try playing defensively with him? (Thanks to Chudo for the Axel-Orson game; we played it so many times, the replay is worn out). Also, one of the conditions for his victory is not to waste mana impulsively. Because he has a decent set of spells, and he needs to use them carefully.
Let's take Deirdre: by nature, she is a black mage. And most (I won't say strong, I'll say players on Heroesofmightandmagic.com) use her darkness spells. However, mass Haste and mass Slow work very well with her army. And her Banshee's Cry is still effective. (By the way, I think that mixed artifacts are quite overpowered, especially for Helmar).
The same goes for Lethos. I think I'm wasting my time writing in this thread, but still. If anyone hasn't tried it, try teleporting on Griffins, for example.
That's all I can say for now. Except that the starting setup is 25% of the success (I think everyone already knows that). And many forget that if two players are playing with the same tactic, it cancels each other out for both of them.
So many centuries So many Gods We were the prisoners of our own fantasy But now we are marching Against these Gods I'm the wizard, I will change it all Valhalla - Deliverance Why've you ever forgotten me
