The AI almost always counters magic accurately because it knows every move you make. Most likely, you should accept this and perhaps try a Warlock/Warrior hybrid build. However, you'll still need a lot of stats in magic and knowledge. Alternatively, you could choose Kifrah and focus on a warrior build, while still taking summoning as a form of support, as well as Retribution (a must-have!), which provides a very useful speed aura. Also, fully upgrade the elemental chains and luck, and if you're lucky, find a defense skill with a perk that grants Stone Skin.
