I can say this, yes I agree with you to some extent that the position in the standings cannot have any relation to the player's skill level (100 poods).
I have played about 2 dozen games with Dubrovin and I know his skill level; his level is now much higher than at the beginning of the spring season.

As for Alex_R, I don't have a clear idea of his skill level (since I haven't really had the chance to play with him), but most likely he is a strong player, and I would certainly not be against his participation - everyone is worthy of fighting for our World!
