Undoubtedly, it will be tough for the Russians in the semi-finals, but in my opinion, it will be easier than if Russia had played against the Italians. The Italians, in the quarter-finals against Spain, once again showed the world an example of almost perfect, aesthetically pleasing play. The Italians only lacked one thing to win... Marcello Lippi. Otherwise, the first round of the playoffs was lost solely due to Donadoni's efforts, who, instead of logically reinforcing the attacking power in extra time, as he did in the semi-final of the last World Cup against the Germans, continued to play defensively. And he even put Di Natale on penalty kicks...
However, I started with the Russians, and I will end with them. I believe that the Russian national team has been incredibly lucky with their opponents in the knockout matches: both the Netherlands in the quarter-finals and Spain now are the best possible opponents they could have hoped for.
