I don't even know what could have caused these terrible glitches. I can only suggest creating a new profile and copying your saves there, as you said. If that doesn't help, reinstall the game and reapply all the patches. If that still doesn't work, then the problem is likely not with the game itself, but with something else.

I didn't quite understand where to remove the mods from.
If you didn't install them, then there's nothing to remove. You can find them on the internet, on various disks that come with magazines, etc. I repeat, if you didn't put them in the UserMODs folder yourself, then they're not there, and there's nothing to clean up.
