There's a writer named Roger Zelazny. One of his novels, "Lord Demon," was published in the "Might and Magic" book series. In the novel, the main character, Kai Kravinik, creates bottles, vases, and pots that contain entire worlds. I suspect that this is one of those bottles, especially since one of the bottles was lost at sea.
