It's hard to say... it depends on the clan. Ideally, it's a community of like-minded people, players, or just friends. In general, in my opinion, before joining a clan, it's better to first get acquainted with the forum, see what's what, meet people, etc. The disadvantages of a clan are sometimes stated in its charter. A simple example: the charter states that the profile must обязательно have a light/dark race, but you suddenly want the opposite, a dark/light race.... Or, if you come to the forum more for communication than for playing, then a clan is not really necessary.
