I got disappointed in mages after a certain point. Firstly, they don’t play any role when you have Djinns and excellent hero magic. Secondly, the hero himself casts spells that are not much weaker than several mages in the early stages, but a few powerful golems significantly ease the task of defeating Sorceresses, Archers, and even melee creeps.
Djinns and mages have slightly different tasks on the battlefield. If mages mainly “harass” enemies and then raise skeletons, Djinns primarily slow down and neutralize the enemy (with a song). Besides, mages are not that slow compared to golems, so there is at least some advantage. But golems are terribly slow; they can only be placed in defense because they are not very good even for teleporting (not comparable to Nagas at all).
If there is a possibility of fighting Necromancers, especially Vampires, use golems.
Golems have advantages against them, but mages are not that bad either; attack magic is also very effective against vampires.
But in any case, scenarios involving capturing castles are unlikely because in the beginning, any castles are captured either by the hero alone or with a little bit of meat and a clear head on the player’s shoulders. Therefore, we are talking about those periods of the game when you still have to use level 2 for faster progress.
