Basically, yes, the Fortress units don't really need a lot of gold because they are rushers. I don't like Sorgal, on the contrary, because his ability is useless and not versatile. If, in addition to the bite, he added +1 to attack and defense for 2 levels, then maybe he would be an average hero. I agree about Irbet; in my opinion, he is the worst Fortress hero due to his poor special ability and starting skills (well, at least Haste is okay, but what's the point of Darkness? :)), and I'm not even talking about the starting troops...
