In the first week, I built upgrades for Elves, Pegasi, Dwarves, and Wooden Golems. A scout reported that there were several Pandora Boxes nearby, so all efforts were focused not on finding castles, but on opening the boxes. Over time, I realized that I had made a mistake - the blue player already had 3 castles (and all 3 were native!!!), while I only had 1! Soon I captured 2 castles, but they were not native :( . Feeling superior, the blue player decided to attack, but I took the initiative and decided to attack first, which allowed me to block his archers for several turns while my elves slowly fired. But the final outcome of the rather difficult battle was due to 2 reasons - superiority in attack and magic skills (11.10.7.5 versus 6.10.4.2) and expert speed. Thank you for the game, I had to "turn a few more hairs gray."
I would say it was more about a few stat parameters, and the accelerated angels that struck and blocked my 120 ballista.
And, of course, ironically, when I went on the attack, I didn't take (because I didn't find) 2!! potions! Which later turned out to be for 2 and 4 angels. Hmm.
There were many chances, but I didn't realize any of them. On turns 1, 2, 3, I saw his Kirrh in the dark (using the Watchtower spell), gathered and reinforced my army (clearly superior at that moment), but he turned around and ran in the other direction. After the game, I checked the autosave, and he DIDN'T see my hero. What intuition!!!
