A little about Knights and Tournaments.

This is the external paraphernalia of the Templars... but the essence of their existence was hidden from the eyes of the world, except for a few initiates, and consisted in the desire for profit (control over the "pilgrims' trail" - pilgrims to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, and the desire to grab a larger piece of land in the East). The activities were shrouded in religious (mystical) ideas...

In the end, the Order was dissolved (and, in fact, completely destroyed) by the same papacy... The reason is the same - money and redistribution of property... Although it may not have been completely destroyed... The current Masonic movement may have its roots in ancient Templar rituals... :)
