There's a Necropolis near your first city. Place Goth in front of the last city of the mages because they produce heroes. Send caravans with all your troops to the Necropolis, but make sure they turn into Vampires and Liches. Also, gather Titans from all the captured Silver cities. Collect as many troops as possible. You'll defeat the mages. Then defeat Alaric. It's harder to fight Alaric than the mages.
