On 1.3.5, Orrin rushes in (apparently without reinforcements), and I'm one tile short of being able to reach him. I defend and on 1.3.6, I manage to reach him near the castle, having gathered troops beforehand.

Confirmed. We both used the two restarts, and the last one was particularly bad. The opponent overtook me in the number of cities, and I had only just found my second wood mine and bought horses. There were no monks. After buying everything I could – namely 30 Pikemen, 30 Archers, and 4 Horses – I went on the attack, encountered the first enemy group, and surrendered. Thank you for the game.
