Regarding the relevance of light spells... Recently, I was playing as a Helmar. I cast a mass punishing strike, and the priests' direct attack dealt more damage than the fireball. Especially when attacking lower-level units. The opponent was a Necromancer, and as you know, he doesn't have great defense. In the end, the "light spells" didn't bring me any benefit, as I preferred a regular attack over the fireball. Although, if you hit more than one stack with a fireball, the total damage will be higher. But this is mainly when targeting high-level stacks that have high innate defense.
