Because Krag has +5% damage for each hero level during a direct attack. Direct attack is very strong; with a high-level hero, it's better than spells. I think that's what Ghost meant. But I don't quite agree; spells are sometimes more useful. Especially the War Cry (the one TonyMontana was talking about). It's my favorite. I use spells until my mana runs out (basically, spells:), but only in long and difficult battles and if these spells are already level 3.
And Krag is a cool hero in general. A good one, that is. He has helped me out many times... But I usually take Haghesh because the kents are a special trump card for the orcs, which can push everyone back, but it's also very difficult for him. That's why I take combat units; they have better defense, and I take Haghesh to strengthen them even more.
You can gain a lot of experience with orcish fighters and a hero specializing in them. I cut them down at level 5, easily! There were only 60 of them... And the hero was level 15...
