Tengro is generally good, but perhaps with a slightly greater emphasis on the steppe; maybe make them analogous to gypsies.
Knight – go for it; I also had the idea to create something like a race of Free Manors, where you could include Homeric (peasant-archers), some warriors with axes or clubs, and some rangers or foresters.
