Some of you probably buy gaming magazines... I do too. And after buying the "Best Computer Games" magazine for January 2008, I was initially pleasantly surprised, and then unpleasantly surprised. I was pleased because I saw that the "Masters' Advice" section once again featured articles about Heroes. But I was disappointed when I actually opened the article...
Here are just a few excerpts from it:
"...the main magic for Jalib is the Celestial Shield, and the Phoenix is also a formidable figure..." (Excuse me, what about raising the dead, creating a phantom, and the incredibly powerful fire trap?)
"...Most likely, Jalib will cast Celestial Shield on the Rakshasa on his first turn..." (This is just ridiculous; in my experience playing on the UBI server, and after asking other players, if you're going to cast the shield, you cast it on the Thunderbirds.)
Further on, the most amusing part: they analyze a game against Jalib who uses the archmage distribution of 58 + 1 + 1...
This is only from the first duel: Haggeesh (ha ha) - Jalib.
Check out the pairings they analyze: Shaq - Carrionaut - Razaz (as if these combinations are used all the time), Garuna against Dyra'el, Garuna against Erin...
And there are a ton of such blunders and mistakes. I get more useful information from one duel with Nazg, Mastercon, Vish, etc., than from a five-page guide. And these are called "Masters' Advice" ((
In this regard, I propose that we undertake a large-scale project to classify the heroes of the duel server: how to position units against different opponents, the limits of hero usage (against whom you can field a hero, and against whom he is doomed), a step-by-step description of particularly interesting and frequently encountered battles, and so on.
And then we'll take it and post it on the magazine's website...
In general, if anyone is interested, please reply in this thread (I think we need at least ten people who play duels reasonably well).
