Defensive gameplay and other tactics.

IMHO, light, like any other magic, is needed by all races. It's just that it will have to be taken instead of something else, which is also very useful. And a Necropolis, using dark magic and summoning, along with raising the dead, can defeat almost any neutral creature without losses, even without light.
