I'll say this from the perspective of someone who only played the fixed maps before and encountered this situation. In fixed maps, the guard posts are usually not moved, but sometimes they are intentionally moved because a quest is hidden there. Without a path, I can't tell if it's a respawn point or something else, and I wander around my territory, also among the guard posts, without even thinking about whether the guard post is moved or if it's intentionally placed there to guard something that's not visible. I'm not even sure if I violated this rule in previous games of the first round, and I wouldn't know now if my last opponent hadn't told me about it. When there's a path or an artifact, it's all clear, but when there isn't a path...
It's like that at first, but then you get used to it. The main thing is to follow the principle: nothing can be obtained for free :D. If there's a guard post, it's guarding something. Usually, there's a guard post from respawn point to respawn point: 10-19, level 5; 20-49, level 4; or 50-99, level 3.
