In my opinion, the monsters are trying to block the archers. For this, they usually attack the guards standing nearby, i.e., they don't attack the archers themselves! In this situation, they were simply scared of the gargoyles but wanted to block the lizards. Hence, this strange move... Although it is indeed strange... :confused:
