I believe that rage is a worthy replacement for any kind of magic. If you play as the Stronghold, you can choose a hero who specializes in centaurs. Buy them and go into battle. I only used centaurs to complete many stages. Overall, it's a pretty strong faction. Very strong indeed. Moreover, magic resistance further simplifies the game when playing as them.
