In the campaigns, the difficulty level is fixed, and you cannot choose it yourself. However, there is one way. You need to open the game archive (using ResEdit) and extract the .h3c files – these are the game campaigns; open them in the campaign editor and mark the value "Scenario difficulty can be chosen by the player" everywhere along the path "Edit/Campaign Properties". Then, pack the files back into the archive, replacing the previous ones, and click the MakeChange button.
The program for opening the archive is located here.
Yesterday I tried to do all of this.
Everything unpacked and extracted perfectly. But I couldn't put it back together.
I must be doing something wrong :(
I tried to do it like this:
1. I delete the AB.h3m file from the game archive.
2. Using the program's explorer, I select the folder where the extracted and modified file is located.
3. I click on this file - it appears in the archive.
By the way, I didn't find the MakeChange button .
I clicked different buttons that seemed to resemble save buttons in some way, and then exited the editor.
I launch the campaign - nothing has changed :(
I launch the editor again, extract it again - the campaign properties remain unchanged :(
However, if you just extract it, change the properties, and save it to a folder with maps, the campaign opens with the ability to change the difficulty level, but only the first one (with Catherine).
In general, there is an error somewhere, but I can't figure out where :(
