Install the "Whirlwinds of War" add-on, but keep in mind that it can only be installed on a licensed version of Heroes 4! It has already been patched to version 3.0. You can play "Whirlwinds" online without any issues! And that's what we're doing :)

You can check if you have a licensed copy in the following way: the disc should be sealed when you buy it. In Russia, Heroes is published by the company Buka! And finally: the game won't launch without entering a key :) It's protected by StarForce :) This is probably the most important difference from a pirated copy ;)
