Which creatures from the alternative upgrade options do you choose?

Even when playing as Orcs, I usually chose Trappers. But yesterday, while completing the last mission of the Orc campaign, I decided to try the upgraded version. IMHO, it's not just overpowered; it's ridiculously overpowered. A level 1 unit managed to strip the magic from a high-level mage.
