Definitely not gold! You'll only enrich your opponent that way. The question is whether to build troops or not. The map is so small that it's often more advantageous to outsmart and capture the enemy's castle than to build anything in your own. Since the game is set to 200 turns, there are barely enough resources to buy 1-2 units and a hero. Usually, by the third day (sometimes even earlier), you're already being attacked.
I can play like this against the computer and against another person. I once generated a map and realized that I liked it. In 15 minutes, you get a very dynamic game.
