God... Truth or fiction?

I believe that God is an illusion. If people spent less time on beliefs, rituals, religions, and religious wars, we would have made much more progress in technology. The saddest thing is that people cannot live without gods. There will always be religion. People need the awareness that someone powerful is watching over them, someone who will not abandon them in trouble. As one of the thinkers said, something like, "People need gods, otherwise they will go mad when they realize that they are alone in the Universe"... that's how it is. Many people pray simply for comfort, and this is where faith in an illusory something comes from.
