Are you sure your drivers are okay??? And is DirectX definitely the new one from the disc???
I'm a bit of a noob myself so I can't advise much, but I have exactly the same video card and it runs great on medium graphics

As I already said, my GPU is GF 5500, Sempron 2800 (1.7 GHz (I don't really want to overclock it)), RAM 1024! What should I upgrade first anyway (even though I understand that the more the better, but still) — the CPU or the GPU — so that Heroes doesn't lag on full settings (it's not even that bad, but it's very annoying) and in other modern games in general (for example Earth 2160 (that one is just a disaster))
